Coyotes and Cadman

Driving around east central Saskatchewan today, Patty and I saw a coyote. I snapped a few pictures as it disappeared into the bush. I also got a haircut, ate elk, saw dozens of antlers, and had a great day.

I caught that Cadscam is finally back in the news, pretty much too late to properly damage Harper’s surprising lead on Dion. Harper is still trying to deny the validity of the audio tape, coupled with Donna Cadman’s admission that the financial considerations were to replace benefits lost, were he to bring down the government. So cut and dried a case of a party leader doing something illegal, and being caught on audio tape admitting it, probably hasn’t happened since Richard Nixon. Yet the Canadian media really dropped the ball on holding his feet to the fire.

Audio expert says Cadman tape not altered

A tape recording at the centre of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s $3.5-million defamation suit against the Liberal party was not altered as the prime minister has claimed, a court-ordered analysis of the tape by Harper’s own audio expert has found.

The key portion of the recorded interview of Harper by a B.C. journalist contains no splices, edits or alterations, a U.S. forensic audio expert has determined.

The findings may call into question Harper’s testimony about the interview during a sworn cross-examination conducted by a Liberal party lawyer in August.

The analysis was filed in Ontario Superior Court on Friday by lawyers for the Liberal party, despite attempts by Harper’s lawyer to keep the opinion out of the court file until at least next week. [...]

And apparently the Green’s deputy leader A. Carr made a good impression on undecided voters on a CBC show.

The I Heart Regina Project - AKA Why the litter?

Why is there so much litter in urban environments? I saw a beer bottle, and then a beer can just on my short walk home from work. And I spotted a garbage bag sitting by the alley, a mere ten steps from the dumpster. And that is just the litter that stood out. I would have an urge to photograph it, put it on my blog, and rant about it, but that might indicate I have a problem.

Besides, someone else is on my side, and has done the grunt work anyway. And it’s a bit of a nifty art project to boot.

I forget where I came across this site, but it’s been in my Firefox tabs for months, and last night Jenkew reminded me of it. So I’m writing about this garbage now. Litter won’t be a campaign issue, but more people would respect politicians a lot more if they spent time pitching in to clean it up.

- The groom’s parents own a downtown restaurant, and had a fantastic dinner at the reception in the Delta.

I thought it wise not to hold a wedding reception in the Delta’s “Omega room”. Alpha, sure, but not the “end”.

Terry Fox Run ; Corner Gas Says Goodbye to Saskatchewan

I missed out on the actual run, but did drive past some of the space set up for it in Regina today. Here are some cancer related links:

I went for a couple bike rides this afternoon (my darn odometer is broken, so add 12km at least today), and saw they are fiiiinnallly developing (into buildings?) the old community garden lots across from the CBC on Broad St. They sat useless for years now, sadly un-gardened.

In the morning Patty and I went to the Corner Gas set at Broad and College, and got a tour of it before they tear it down this year. We met “Fitzy” (who was unaware he’s on the UofR’s homepage at times), and his on-show Granny, as well as Eric Peterson (Oscar Leroy). I liked Eric best on This Is Wonderland, a short lived CBC drama/comedy, from a few years ago. However, Oscar is still a great character too.

I borrowed set security’s clubs and juggled those for the first time. I’m not so good at catching only the handle side, but I made it work.

Green Thumb Sunday - take cover!

Well the frosts have arrived, and the spaghetti squash is all but toast. My efforts to cover the tomato plants have essentially gone for naught as I think the plastic covers did as much to suffocate the plant as to protect it from the cold night air. Next year I’ll have to invest in some discard-able bed sheets instead, and some steaks to prop them all up like a mini green house.

- My poor zucchini is much more wilty today than in this photo from last week.

- The beets are hanging tough, and survived the frost last night just fine uncovered.

Now I have to get up early tomorrow to bike over to the garden and undo my covering work tonight.

In this photo you can see my sunflowers, beats, dill, spinach (going to seed sadly), zucchini, and radishes with plenty of seed pods to pick for my crop next year.
