When reading about the Viterra lockout in Regina on the Leader Post online, I saw this Google Ad (my Ad Block was turned off for some reason). It’s worth reading through, because it shows to the scummy extent companies will go through to prevent their labour force from organizing into a union.
Projections’ trademarked Icebreaker does the following:
Looking to educate employees about the potential dangers of unionization, before the union ever comes knocking? It’s the best time to start a discussion about remaining union-free, especially with the one custom labor relations video companies all over the country are putting into place.
Projections “IceBreaker” is an easygoing, non-confrontational approach by a believable “employee.” Reinforced by dramatic vignettes and hard facts from newspapers, magazines, and government files, the IceBreaker is a powerful and highly effective resource that will help employees understand your company’s union-free philosophy.
A “believable ‘employee’”, AKA an actor, tells a company’s real employees all kinds of fabricated stories about big bad unions, written by Projections’ staff. It says so on their FAQ page:
How much experience does your staff have in Labor Relations?
Our staff of professional writers and producers has worked on thousands of scripts dealing with labor relations issues. We have years of experience with certification votes, decertification votes, strike votes, benefits messages and many others. Our in-house subject matter experts consistently complete labor relations-related projects on time and on budget.
If unions are so bad, why do Projections, Inc.’s clients need cookie cutter demographic actors (ie. “White Male, African-American Female, Spanish”) to spin a yarn? Let’s let Projections tell you themselves:
What about the Employee Free Choice Act?
Projections has helped many companies develop a custom union avoidance IceBreaker that truly hits home and helps maintain a union-free status. With actors portraying employees, and locations that the workforce can relate to, a custom Icebreaker can be the most powerful preventative tool a company can use. And today, many of our clients are choosing to incorporate information about the pending Employee Free Choice Act to be sure their employees are informed and aware.

Bonus tip:
You can see a portion of an anti-union video shown to Walmart employees in the movie Walmart - The High Cost of Low Prices.

Have you ever worked without a union? I have for four years, and it was very unpleasant.
Whoever these folks are, they richly deserved to be ‘outed’. Thanks for doing it, Saskboy!

I’ve worked in both types, and the non-unionized wasn’t bad, but they are famously anti-union. It seems there are few fence sitters. I see unions as the obvious counterbalance to big businesses working together to drive labour wages and true mobility down.
