Tropical Surprise Canadian Weekend

It was a very interesting weekend, leading up to Canada Day tomorrow. My family was full of surprises with parties, engagements, and moving/job news. I’ll have to take a vacation to visit some family when they go overseas to teach topics in the Tropics; they insisted on visitors, after all. It would be my first vacation south of D.C.

At the party I had the best chocolate cake ever created - it had a chocolate cheesecake style icing and was topped with strawberries. I think they said it came from a book about dying and going to heaven, and a chapter about only living once (and now for less time, for eating that ultra-rich stuff). And I played a drum, and watched a real drummer show me how it’s done. I couldn’t manage to copy, but he has a few decades of musical inclination over me, so I don’t feel so bad. Although he also plays the guitar very well, he hadn’t run across Jim Croce music, so I hope he looks it up for the next party :-D.

I dropped my “old” car off where it should be safe to park long term, and my “new”, “free” car (so long as I don’t put gas in it) has a parking space finally. And speaking of winning, I didn’t win the 6/49 or Western 6/49, but did get 1 number and really close on 3 others on one ticket, and 2 numbers on another. Good enough for no money from the ~$30Mil. Now I guess I don’t have to play again for another year or so. I’ve already had more than my share of good luck in June anyway.

And the weekend feels like it’s not even gone, with Canada Day looming large on the horizon. I really like Canada Day. It’s fun to spend it in Regina, but I wish I could be joining my friend Jesse in Ottawa again this year. I’ll make due in the Queen City, however. I’ll watch some movies, see some live music, and avoid a sun burn. Last night I barely avoided a burn I think, and spent the dark hours of the evening watching “Arlington Road” [8/10] (for the second time in my life), with Patty.
