My garden is certainly starting to take off. The peas are almost all up, and I have a couple potato plants doing well, although I’d guess that means most of them failed. The two tomatoes are clinging to life, and there are new yellow peppers, and a new row of potatoes put in Friday. I gave the garden a good soaking today, and yesterday evening as well so the weeds ought to be coming up a lot more now too :-S
Yes it gets dry fast in that soil.

Hi Saskboy……do you have a lot of clay there? Next spring mix more compost in…..add earthworms or something!!!! I’m surprised anything is growing!!!! ;)
My garden is growing but not enough sunlight on my balcony which means I won’t get much fruit. Means that your clay garden will probably be more fruitful :)
Cheers!

Yes Teena, they need frequent drinks, it’s been a dry Spring. Kas, I agree.
I’ve been holding off on hoeing both because I usually bike to my garden and it’s hard to take tools, and also because it was so windy earlier that hoeing would have caused a lot of erosion.
Rain is coming tomorrow, supposedly :woo hoo:
Yes Rosie, I think it doesn’t have enough manure and compost in it, although they do supposedly add compost to it before they till it in the Fall. My radishes on the balcony are doing surprisingly well, and my two green peppers have sprouted too, but I doubt they’ll produce much as I’m on the north side and they get shade most of the day.

You lucky duck being able to garden vegetables! And nothing beats fresh peas straight from the vine. It might be a problem them being in the shade, but it’s amazing how hardy those little sprouts can be. I see a lack of organic matter too in that soil. Maybe you can add mulch to help keep the moisture in. Good luck!

And before I go, gotta say I love the new website look!

Thanks. And the garden is completely unshaded, I just took photos at night. I have some compost I should certainly haul over to spruce the place up a little because yeah, it dries out like sand.
