Don’t Blink, Or You Might Miss It!

Small Dead Animals blog standing up AGAINST a Conservative bill. Stranger things have happened. Although it is guest blogger Lance making the case against the bill lobbied for by American special interest groups and politicians. Hey, when your government tries to make you a criminal for using Linux (which is certainly part of how Lance makes a living) I think I’d be pissed off more than I am about this bill, too.

Surprising really that several of the commenters there also seem to understand that this bill is bogus. Almost half I’d say. Of the rest, the majority are against doing anything against the Conservatives only in the spirit of keeping the blue kool-aid flowing, and not as a result of any real support for turning themselves into criminals for daily media routines.

It’s going to be difficult to gauge the true disgust for the C-61 bill on the Internet, because as people who use computers, we automatically have more exposure to the type of media being outlawed, than all other Canadians. We also probably have more tech-savvy friends than the average Canadian does. Ambivalence may be high among several demographics, so it will be important for us to all reach out to them to explain that the Conservatives’ bill is going to turn the country into a police state that will affect more than just people who use technology or libraries. It may also be important to note that the Liberals were also recently guilty of a very similar bill being presented to the House! Have they changed their tune? I’m not convinced they have.
