The Net Neutrality rally was this morning on Parliament Hill. There will need to be more action on this, to keep our Internet free. People in Ontario are having a harder time finding ISPs that are not being “Shaped” by Bell. Packet Shaping is the process by which an Internet provider can restrict certain type of traffic, to give higher priorities to special applications. This can make using some software impossible, and hurts net neutrality - the ISP is no longer indifferent to what programs you use on the Internet.
Many universities use this kind of technology to keep P2P programs frustratingly slow, in an attempt to defend bandwidth used by other applications like web browsers, and instant messengers.
