Last Sunday and Monday I planted.
Beets (two types) peas, cucumbers (2 types), zucchini, spaghetti squash, green peppers, potatoes, spinach, romaine lettuce, radishes, beens (2 types), carrots, kohlrabi, two sunflowers. Hopefully everything comes up :-)
It rained on Saturday, and is supposed to rain on Sunday. Unfortunately, I’m away from the city for a prayer service for my godfather Raymond, who passed away from cancer this week.
This week I’ll have to put in some more food into the garden. I know it’s late for a few things, but I’m going to try anyway. Pumpkin, corn, and tomatoes are yet to go in.

Beet pickles, absolutely delicious. Do them, you’ll be very happy you did.
I haven’t planted anything yet, but this wkend was at the greenhouse. Picked up my tomatoes, melons, etc. Seeds go in tomorrow.
Relax, you’ve time. Frost in Regina until Tuesday, so I hope nothing is up.
If you get a good crop, learn to can. I -really- mean that. You can get away with a Dutch oven as the canner, but to do it fairly quickly, you need a larger boiler and a pressure canner (prohibitively expensive, so the pressure cooker will work for small jars.)
I’m not much for canned beans or carrots (YMMV), but I make an amazing pickled peppers, canned potatoes (small ones only) and the aforementioned beets. Remember, “pickles” is a reference to the process and brine, not the vegetable. Any melon makes great pickles. Cukes are good . . . zucchini is better. Everyone in Sk. should have a zucchini plant.
Lots of food and they grow great here. the pickles are just as good as cucumber. You do have to pickle them when they are soft and before the skins and meat become woody though (unlike cukes which don’t get that way in our short season). No biggie, you make zucchini cake, fried zucchini or just microwave with a dab of butter . . . yumm.
Cheers,
