If two Liberals fight in the political wilderness, does a tree land on either, or both of them?
Two prominent blogging Liberals are bickering over the Green Party’s carbon tax proposal. Liberal Leader Stephane Dion has suggested recently that the Liberals would steal that platform plank from the Greens (just like we’ve been begging them to do!), except he apparently didn’t bother to learn the sales pitch that goes along with a “carbon tax increase”. Naturally, other taxes are proportionally decreased, leaving people with the same level of money, an improved atmosphere, and greener economy.

The other issue is how they intend to build enough trust that people will believe its revenue neutral, or that they as a party(I have not doubt Dion is) are really green?
So they take our policy and are not believable and they also explain it so badly it becomes poison for us to campaign on too. What a bunch of knobs.

Whooee! I’m with GAB on this one. At first, I was happy to see the Grits rip off our policy. It wasn’t long before it became apparent that Dion couldn’t sell free wine on Skid Row. I am becoming increasingly concerned that Dion has effectively killed the carbon tax with his lack of political acumen and ridiculously inept sales pitch.
A few years ago when I first thought about joining the Green Party, the big policy plank was “tax-shifting.” Still is. The details of the tax-shift (i.e. selling a carbon tax) came after the concept of tax-shifting had been presented. If Dion was selling a Prius, he’d start by talking about high sticker price and expensive battery replacements and finish by talking about 71 mpg. What a dope!

GAB, the reason I stopped voting Liberal was because their pudding just wasn’t proved. And it won’t be nearly thick enough when they do come to power, but at least we might start treading water, instead of sinking like a stone under the Conservatives’ “leadership”.

I don’t think either of them come out looking like a winner in the spat. The most that can be said about it is that it further highlighted how badly Dion pitched the carbon tax shift, if uber-Liberals would choose to tear each others’ throats out rather than accept the most courageous platform shift possible.

Some interesting polls out lately. Canadians don’t necessarily expect tax shifting, and I don’t have the link, but a few weeks ago there was a poll out that although Canadians don’t like Dion, they like Harper less, or something along those lines.
