Imagine having no one check on you, for almost 30 years. It’s hard to imagine that happening in an apartment building, but somehow, Europe pulled it off. Neighbours broke into the apartment of a dead woman, and they found her.. in bed.. dead. They were understandably startled. No word in the story if they’ll be charged with breaking and entering, if that’s even a crime in Croatia right now?

I think the saddest part of that story is “Neighbors now argue the apartment should be divided among the remaining tenants.”
Everything boiled right down to pragmatic concerns almost instantly. No time for reflection.

How depressing that this could happen in the first place, and what a sad commentary on the human condition that it was greed that led to the discovery of the corpse. They didn’t wait until the discovery of the body to start arguing about what to do with the body; they broke into the apartment in the first place because they thought they should have it!

Sorry, I meant to say, “about what to do with the apartment.”

Also a sad coincidence Friday, was that I learned a longtime reclusive resident of my home town passed away several weeks ago, and his brother discovered the body only Friday. RIP Wayne R.
