It's hard to believe you still have cold weather in May. We have already hit 100 degrees F. I don't think you'll have any problem with the sunflowers--they seem to thrive no matter what. Happy GTS,

We have a different microclimate in the inner city than folks in the burbs or in the country do. I planted in the coldframe two weeks ago and I have lettuces and spinach already a couple inches high.

Today I'll plant sweetpeas and peas and beans. They like cooler weather, and my garden is small enough that I can cover if there's a threat of frost. My set onions are also up a few inches, but they grow on their own. And I won't put out peppers or tomatoes or cukes until May long, because they like it nice and warm.

What I really need to do today is clean out my pots for zukes and cukes and turn the compost. Good thing I have a couple of teenagers for the latter!

It seems a bit early to plant your seeds Saskboy. Maybe wait 2 weeks or so.

Sowing before the long weekend in May - aren't you concerned about a risk or frost, or you do start the seeds inside and them move the plants out when it gets warmer?

It does sound like you will have a worth-raiding-garden in a few months :)

I think that is wonderful that the seeds have been in your family for years and years, a nice connection to your heritage and the land.
