ConAdscam in plain terms

LKO explains how the “in and out” scam that the Conservative Party of Canada used last election, was bilking taxpayers by incurring refunds for ineligible election expenses.

What you CAN do: Transfer money from the national party to local candidiates so that the local candidates can spend that money on local advertising.

What you CAN’T do: Buy a national ad campaign, and then temporarily (and I mean for mere hours here in some cases) transfer money from the national party to the local candidates and RIGHT BACK AGAIN to make it SEEM as though the candidates had paid for local advertising within their local spending limits, when we all know what happened was that the national party exceeded the national spending limits and then tried (incompetently to boot) to cover their tracks.

The score so far:
Liberals: 1 Adscam
Conservatives: 1 ConAdscam
other parties: 0 scams

As usual, the Liberals and Conservatives win again. Or is that lose… no, only taxpayers lose.

Leader-Post Photo Contest

This may be of interest to other SaskBloggers. I made some entries on Saturday. I’ll have to watch for them if voting comes up, should one of mine be selected.

Leader-Post covers Bloggers Being Sued by Warman

National Post affiliated Regina Leader-Post is covering the story of the lawsuits launched against Small Dead Animals, among other blogs.

There was an error in the story claiming that all of Crooke’s lawsuits had been dismissed.

And speaking of stupid lawsuits, what’s up with eBay suing Craigslist?

Green Thumb Sunday - planting soon

If the weather holds out, I may do a little planting this weekend. I’ve been neglecting photographs for a while, but I’ve been away on Sundays, so have a pretty good excuse. I went to see my garden plot in the community garden on Grant Rd. and it looks big enough to grow quite a bit. I was advised to not plant potatoes just yet, lest they get frozen off in a June cold snap.

It’s good to blindly follow, and create extra waste due to patriotism. At least on April 23rd it is.

Insane Orchard Management

$15,000/acre! Are they insane? This is your tax money going into ripping up perfectly good trees, because they put in too many to begin with. And they’re just going to make the same mistake again. What a terrible waste. :-(

Life Imitates Football

A zinger for all you “Reality TV” fans out there:

The most ridiculous television show on the tube right now is The Bachelor. I’m forced to watch it on Monday nights because it’s Cindy’s favourite (along with The Apprentice).

So a guy sucks face with 30 different women and goes on private dates and meets the parents of four of them and at the end chooses the winner?

I’ve seen it before. It’s called T-R-E-V-I-S S-M-I-T-H ! It doesn’t end well.

How can women watch this and think it’s so romantic when he’s groping and fondling all these different females, and then at the end punts them 40 yards downfield?

Mystifying.

Reality TV, to me, is sports.

Life, imitating art, imitating sports. Trevis Smith is the former Rider convicted of having sex without notifying partners of his HIV positive status.
