The protest was in response to a blog entry by John Gormley Live producer Tammy Robert. In the post (which doesn’t reflect the official position of the Rawlco radio station, apparently) she criticized Amber Jones, the leader of the Green Party of Saskatchewan, for breasfeeding her infant while off stage at a news event.

There are two versions of the story up at Rawlco (times two, because it’s duplicated at 650 and 980), and no other sources for information the protest can be found by me at this time.
About 35 breast feeding mothers brought their babies with them to protest a News Talk Radio blog site at the Saskatoon station.
Last week John Gormley Live’s producer Tammy Robert wrote about breast feeding politicians who use their babies as political props.
Green Party president [sic] Amber Jones had her baby at a news conference where she breast fed the child.
Jones has been invited to do a guest blog on News Talk Radio, and guest on one of our talk shows.
Opinions on blogs are one person’s opinion and not those of the the radio station.
What’s funny, is that Tammy appeared to be looking for a way to slam Amber, and lacking any policy reason, she took offence to Amber’s supposed use of her baby as a political prop. Well, Tammy finally got to witness first hand what it looks like when a mother (a whole group of them) breastfeeds a child in a political demonstration.

And there’s some real, and serious news too. “Prepare to be shocked.” Indeed.
By Sarah Mills
Updated April 28, 2008 - 1:44pmYour grocery bill is going up.
No food rationing yet, but that is the case in the United States right now and starvation is becoming more serious in poorer countries.
Inflation rates have been fairly low since the 80s.
But business professor Dr. Ian Lee, of Ontario’s Carleton University, is predicting hard times ahead.
With a recession and people possibly losing their jobs, he argues people can’t put off buying food for a few years while waiting for the economy to recover, like they can a big purchase.
Lee claims since people under 30 haven’t seen a big economic crisis before, they will be the most shocked.
Where’s food rationing taking place in the USA? [In Sam's Club, and Costco, where law allows.] I’d be more shocked if I hadn’t been expecting something like this for many years now. I don’t think I’m alone, but those who have seen and lived through worse times are going to be better prepared. I’m sure it will be a lot harder to accept when it actually hits here. [The comment in the link to the Coloradoan story, is probably correct. Even though the US may produce most of its rice, if the rest of the world is struggling, most of that rice will be exported for more money to be made! Patriotism doesn't pay the bills in the USofA.]

Patriotism doesn’t pay the bills is right. And it pays better to produce livestock, dairy and ethanol than cheaper grains and vegetables for the poor. The richer other nations get, and the more they want to eat like we’ve been eating our entire lives (and drive and use electronics), the more expensive food (and energy) is going to be. You know how the ecological footprint people have been telling us for years we’re using more than our fair share of the planet in the richer nations? Well, it sort of looks like the “developing” countries might want their fair share now. Preaching to the choir though, no doubt.

Hmmm….knickers in a knot over a mum feeding her baby. perhaps it’s time Saskboy does another “protest” like last year’s vagina one??!!

Ps. saw your comment over at RT’s. You truly are a very nice boy from my favourite province. You do the prairies proud!
and $700. for a meal is obscene and just socially irresponsible!

I’m writing about the $700 tomorrow.
And I think breastfeeding has all the exposure it needs right now without a blog burst :-)

Rawlco Radio that this ‘Tammy’ works for is a hard core right wing media outlet. She is a producer for the Gormely Show hosted by a defeated Conservative Member of Parliament who has a particularly nasty mean streak with anyone who doesn’t like Harper and company. Gormley worked for the Devine government during summers when he went to law school.
Tammy wrote an idiotic ‘blog’ post that condemned the new Leader of the Sask Green Party for using her infant as a political ‘prop’ even though neither she nor ANYONE else from Rawlco was even at the media scrum in question. I am not surprised that such vile, nasty, mean spirited crap came from Tammy Robert, she works with and for the vilest, nastiest, mean-spirited right wing extremist on Saskatchewan radio waves.
People should take a look at whoever it is that advertises on Rawlco and boycott them.

saskboy, i know it’s silly of me to ask, given that your stellar journalism prowess, nevermind your writing skills, are renowned in all sorts of circles - but tammy ‘appeared to be looking’? really? did you garner that from all her previous posts about amber or the green party?
undoubtedly tammy is still trembling from the sheer awe of witnessing the raw power of so many mothers (what was it, thirty five strong?) shiveringly mindlessly on the concrete while their bored looking children wandered aimlessly, hopefully not too close to the river.
the magnificence. it was like martin luther king all over again.
oh, what a time to be alive!

P.S. I find it humourous to call this collection of nonsense, ‘Blogs’.
Everyone who works for Rawlco seems to be given a bit of space and all of the employees appear to be trying to outdo each other in terms of who can be the nastiest, meanest, anti-lefty in the whole radio station! What a joke.

Leftdog,
If you don’t like Rawlco radio. Don’t listen to it then!
It’s just that simple.
leftdog | 28-Apr-08 at 8:30 pm | Permalink
Who said I listened to them????? Typical of right wingers … they can dish it out but they sure can’t take it!!!
This is a situation where those who are licensed by the CRTC to report the news are making the news.
If you don’t like what I have to say … “don’t listen to it then”
Saskboy | 28-Apr-08 at 11:26 pm | Permalink
“but tammy ‘appeared to be looking’? really? did you garner that from all her previous posts about amber or the green party?”
No, I gathered it from the lack of other credible reasons, and a lack of a plausible explanation offered by her. Some other less likely candidates would be that she:
-hates women
-hates people named Amber and figures they are all manipulative
-was having a bad day (ruled out by her second blog post defending her attack, unless she had two really bad days in a row…)
Now, instead of attacking me to defend Tammy, perhaps you could do something useful. It sounds like you were there. Maybe you could confirm if the photo I attached demonstrates the following:
“(what was it, thirty five strong?) shiveringly mindlessly on the concrete while their bored looking children wandered aimlessly”
I’d suggest it blows your theory about the children being bored and mothers shivering. I don’t think the idea was to intimidate Tammy, or invoke a demonstration fit for the 1960s (or modern day other countries). Yet those children learned a lot more about democracy today, than they would have sitting at home watching TV.

LOL!!! No. More like ROTFLMAO!!!!!
Leftdog, are you really admitting that you are lambasting the content and political orientation of a radio station that you never listen to?

Using her baby as a political prop… sheesh! She wasn’t nursing her baby at the podium. The baby was hungry and she fed it while she was offstage. I’m sure Tammy wouldn’t have been happy if a hungry baby was crying at the news conference either.

Gawd .. talk about a bag of hammers … Dearest Louise! I am commenting on Saskboy’s blog post, plus Miss Tammy’s post that I read on the NewsTalk Website … the issue was about a ‘blog’ posting, NOT anything that was broadcast on that station!
And yes, in the past, I gave NewsTalk Radio a chance and gave them a fairly extensive listen over a number of months. However, after extensive listening I concluded that they are advancing an rather extreme right wing view of the world and I have turned them off on my radio dial.

This made the LP front news section and ironically enough, right below it is a little blurb about getting help and support with breastfeeding. The irony was not lost on me and I had to drop in as I am sure it would bring a smile to you too!
2008 and it makes news that a breastfeeding mum still makes news…..quite sad when you really think about it….

xPosted to NewsTalk blog of John Himpe in response to skallday1 who also claimed that Amber sought attention in the manner Tammy suggested:
“Workplace daycare is an entirely different concept than actually bringing your child to work with you, which is what you did at the press conference.”
In your opinion, anyway. Besides, did Amber say that she was attempting to demonstrate her idea for workplace daycare? No. Why don’t you ask instead of tell?
Is it really that unusual for a politician to bring their children into a political event? Gee, I wonder if recent Saskatchewan history might provide some insight into how common it is to involve family in either political comment, or have them attend events…

Oh look… kids on stage… props… at a political event.

Where’s Tammy’s outrage? (My snarky comment about Brad Wall being a boob, has been left out to maintain my high standard of writing and impartiality that Lightasa accused me of having.)
Of course I’m being sarcastic. I’m sure there was no more intent on Brad Wall’s mind to use his family as a prop, as Amber had intent on her mind to do what Tammy accused her of.

Well, well, well. Mr. “Bag of Hammers” can say all this:
“Rawlco Radio that this ‘Tammy’ works for is a hard core right wing media outlet. and then claim that he doesn’t listen to them but is just commenting on a couple of blogs.
Sure. That make’s sense. Must be the tinfoil hat picking up radio signals.

“2008 and it makes news that a breastfeeding mum still makes news…..quite sad when you really think about it….”
Huh? That didn’t make much sense. But just when did breastfeeding moms ever make the news? Seems my original point is being proven over and over in these comments threads. Once picked, the cherry keeps on going and going and going.

Harper drags his kids to lots of media events .. is that called a political prop?? Wall drags his brood around in front of the press and no one bats an eye, but some political amateur at newstalk is trying to impress her boss as to how clever/nasty she can be … and the new Leader of the SaskGreens is using her infant as a prop! But what’s worse … someone like Louise (whom I understand is a mother herself) defends the attacks against the green leader. I would expect that of Ann Coulter … and I guess of ‘Ann Coulter wannabees!
