I'd switch to Linux on my main computer in a heartbeat if I could use the latest version of Photoshop in a colour managed environment. I can't and that bugs the hell out of me.

As to the XP thing, I'm in a small town and word about disasters spreads fast. And Vista can only be described as a disaster.

When 8.04 Ubuntu comes out in 9 days I'll be reinstalling it overtop of the 6.06 I have, so long as it boots well from the Live CD. I'll try it out, and see how much easier it's become to do everything I want.

I bought my laptop right before Vista was launched and I'm so glad I still run XP.

For my next computer, I'm not sure what to do. Mac isn't for me, too expensive and can't run a lot of my Chinese programs (weird, I know, but I tried - my parents are Mac-addicted).

I'd consider Ubuntu... Linux isn't my favorite as an everyday somewhat "basic" user.

Most computer buyers I know aren't quite that picky, but they certainly aren't all happy with Vista being pushed down their throats. They'd consider Macs if they didn't have a reputation for being expensive and hard to fix.

I've sold 23 Wintel boxes so far this year. Only one had Vista. The rest came with XP, which every one of the customers *demanded*. Several told me that if they couldn't get XP they would buy a Mac. Period.

(Sadly, not one of them was willing to consider Linux.)
