Actually, there were several traffic circles built in Saskatoon around that time. They were crazy inventions. Any city planner or engineer who does not take human nature into account and use that as a basis for planning ends up creating havoc. My ex was an engineer. He could tell you all kinds of stories about stupid design that engineers thought were wonderful but common sense and human nature dictates otherwise. That's why there is only one now.

Perhaps Louise, but I thought it was too much of a coincidence that a huge traffic circle was on it. Maybe we're both right and they named it for both reasons? Hopefully a Saskatoon historian will stop by and let us know for sure.

Yeah, Zack has the same complaint. I admit to slowing down for one once, because it almost blows the mind to not have to merge.

my biggest pet peeve on the road are those drivers in Saskatoon who don't understand the concept of righthand turn lane that becomes its own lane....the city has big signs showing the concept and has even gone the extra length to put in barriers so drivers can clearly see they have their own lane......but still they stop!!!!!!!!!!

[...] Don’t Stop March 27th, 2008 When merging in Saskatoon or elsewhere… Don’t Stop!
I thought Circle Drive in Saskatoon was intended to mean a road that took you around the city rather than through it. Just like Ring Road in Regina and Perimeter Highway in Winnipeg. It had nothing to do with the stupid traffic circles. I was living in Saskatoon when they built it.

your right about Saskatoon drivers. They are horrible! People don't know how merge on Circle Drive and don't turn there signal lights on when they plan to turn.

Saskatoon city planers don't know how to build proper streets and overpasses. I think Saskatoon is the worst place to drive in the whole province. With all the bad drivers and poor road building.

The only thing worse than people yielding when they should be merging on Circle Drive in Saskatoon, are the city planners of Winnipeg deciding NOT to have merge signs coming onto multi-lane roads like Bishop Grandin and the Pembina Highway and to have yield signs instead.

That's conscious creation of bad drivers. But then again, we all know that Manitobans aren't best known for their driving skills...
