… that I didn’t talk about it right away until some of the chips settled. It really is huge. It’s confirmed by an American blogger as a big deal — that’s how we know for sure ;-).
Chuck Cadman is a being a more effective opposition MP than Stephane Dion. And he’s dead; Cadman, that is.
Some people just seem to be more ethical than others. Chuck Cadman was an ethical man driven by a sense of justice. He told the Conservatives he met with to keep their bribe for his vote.

- Actual [ominous] Conservative ad mailout
Harper, Finley, and Flanagan are not appearing to be quite as ethical. For a party that claimed cleaning up influence peddling in government was a priority, we now are seeing why they realized it was a problem.
Do you think this would be fun to attend at the UofR? I like the ominous title:
PUBLIC LECTURE
Conservatism: The End of an Era
with Dr. Tom Flanagan
March 28, 2008 ~ 2:30 pm
If I asked the question, “Was Chuck Cadman offered anything for his vote against Martin,” would I next be saying, “Don’t taze me bro!”?

More can be read about this story.
Kady.
The damning tape.
Garth “Scumbag” Turner has details you have to see.
I wonder, since Adscam brought down the Liberals, will Cadscam bring down the Conservatives? If it doesn’t, I think we send a terribly dangerous message to politicians. That message is that they can get away with anything, even offering bribes as unofficial party policy. I would just be sick if nothing is done about this. Hearing the audio tape of Harper’s admission, and the corroboration by the Cadman family, an RCMP investigation is really a formality at this point.

Heckfire Saskboy.
Those are two big questions.
Hope you ask the first one (ie. it’s not like anybody in the media will/will get a chance to).
Hope you don’t have to ask the second one.
_____
Can’t help but wonder if, perhaps, a cancellation of that ‘leture’ might be an indication of whether Mr. Harper get’s caught in that rundown you were talking about over at my place.

I’m having a hard time believing this happened the way it is currently being presented. Why? Because right around Chuck’s passing, and shortly afterward when Harper et al did the big crime announcement (I think about street racing) in BC, Ms. Cadman made it abundantly clear that she didn’t have much nice to say about the CPoC. Feeling as she did at the time, why would she not have gone public then? (Apparently, she’s had a change of heart, on both the CPoC and “the event.”)
Also, apparently there is video of Chuck saying it never happened.
And we also have BELINDA for God’s sake! Can you link me to a post where you were outraged about that? Because that DID HAPPEN, whereas Chuck DID NOT vote down the gov’t, whether because he was doing as his constituents asked or was dying and didn’t have the energy for an election, or any number of combinations/permutations/etc of the whys and wherefores.
And don’t forget that Chuck HAD BEEN a party member - trying to get someone back into the party strikes me as something normal. Unless some real live documentation is delivered, I’m calling this a great way to sell a book.

23rd, eh? Drop by the closet. I’ll come with.

That being said, I don’t get it. Aren’t the conservatives supposed to be crooked? Are we supposed to think better of them, than this? I just don’t get it.

It’s in the middle of the day TMG1, I’d have to book time off work. Want to field the questions for me there? ;-)
Candace, it’s the author that brought this to light, that’s why it’s happening now.

I just hope RCMP will not be afraid of initiating an investigation. They were fast to investigate Paul Martin’s government with the urging of opposition then. This time there’s actual incriminating tape that clearly shows Harper talking about financial offer to an MP in their effort to defeat Martin’s government.
Candace, Dona did not realize it would be such an issue. Even up to today she is still surprised by how much attention the incident is getting. Even Chuck when interviewed about “vote buying” laugh and said people have to interpret it the way they like and that there certainly was offer made but he thought it’s just normal for a minority situation. Chuck quote about denying there was an offer is in answer to question about his meeting with Martin and Harper, not about the 2 conservative men who met with him. They probably were not sure at that time whether Harper knew. That led Dona to ask Harper if he knew and Harper said no. But Harper’s audio tape confirms he knew.
It would really be scary if they let this pass because it will accepting that bribery is ok Canada.

That’s my analysis to this point too Cyberwanderer. It’s not clear what Harper knew was being negotiated with, but that’s why the RCMP have to come in at this point to determine if the admission on tape as it sounds deserves prosecution of a crime.
EDIT: Oh wait, going to this part of the tape, it appears Harper is screwed, “The offer to Chuck was that it was only to replace financial considerations he might lose due to an election.”
I don’t see that meaning anything other than they were going to offer Chuck something for his vote, that would impact his finances. Reasoning does not impact finances. Either our politicians can offer each other money for votes, or they can’t, the country has to decide!

The Flanagan lecture is now fully booked. I decided not to talk to him, since it would likely be a waste of time.

When a polititian, refuses to answer direct questions, and refuses to be forthcoming, and cooperate, it’s obvious they have something to hide. This is not rocket science folks. Plain and simple, the man is a LIAR!
