…but I didn’t know you could die from incorrectly swabbing your outer ear canals. As they say in the article, it’s best to “use your little finger”, or to see a doctor if it’s worse than that. I’ve seen video of people “wicking” or whatever it’s called, where a flammable funnel is placed on the ear, and the end is lit on fire to create suction. Oh, the things people do to remove wax.
Has, anyone heard that the smallest thing you can put in your ear safely is your own elbow?

Well, I didn’t know you could die…But I have heard Q-tips are not good. I use them anyway. My brother and sister-in-law do the wicking thing and it works fabulously.

I read this article this morning!
I love the part where they say the safest way to clean your ears is to use your finger!

A finger in the ear works wonders. It’s safe, it can get you your own seat on the bus - aaaand it cures deafness: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=510802&in_page_id=1770&in_page_id=1770&expand=true

I might like the wicking thing, but I’ve made it a personal rule to never put a burning tube into an opening on my head/body. That’s part of why I don’t smoke.
When I tried the water washing method at the doctor’s, it is best described as feeling like the water will shoot through the other side of your head. Not too comfortable.
I bet no one has ever broken the end of their finger off in their ear before, but people with long nails must have to be careful…
