I'd have to say it was accurate. My sewing kit made it through security both ways.

Bottle of water = bad.
Pointy needle = okay fine.

[...] More Airport Security Needed I wrote this before my trip to Toronto, by air. Do we really need more Airport Security? I wrote this last year, when I finally got a response from the Transport Minister’s office about our ridiculous maple syrup security. We could improve the security of our country in better ways than throwing people into airports to take away our syrup. [...]

Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal have "tight" security as far as I can tell. By "tight", I don't mean efficient, I mean they will actually check boarding pass, suitcases etc.

But when I went to Winnipeg last summer, I was surprised to see you could go in, through the security, have everything checked... and then go out again for a smoke with the blessing of security people!

Airport security is pretty much a laughing stock and unfunny joke. Worse than that it's a huge cash grab where applicable. Security should be based on behind the scenes baggage checking and bomb detecting, not harrassing ordinary Canadians, or stopping flights for four hours over bottles of water.

I say let's all bear guns. That way, we outnumber the terrorists. If ever one decides to go berserk, we'll take him down in no time.
