Blog Navel Gazing - CBA 2007 edition; Toronto bound; Sponsored!

The voting rounds for the Canadian Blog Awards have begun, and you get one whole vote this week per category. *pick me pick me* (Saskboy jumps up and down waving his hands in the air)

You could be selfish and pick yourself over me [if you're nominated]. (Yes I’m kidding about the “selfish” crack, Megan.) Some people are even almost recommending me.

You can vote for only once per category.
I’ll make my endorsements for other bloggers as the week moves on. Suffice to say there are a lot of great blogs I’d love to give a nod to, and on top of helping to run this year’s CBAs, I don’t have as much time as I’d like to highlight them all this week. I try to mention them throughout the year.

Best Blogosphere Citizen - would be very nice to win, even though I’m sure there are better bloggers out there who do more for their communities [both virtual and offline]. I guess we’ll see if my help running the CBAs, ProgressiveBloggers.ca, and putting together SaskBlogs BBQs will pay off with an award. Considering Boing-Boing’s Cory Doctorow is in the running, I’m guessing I won’t take first place :-D (Understatement of the year, probably.)

Best Local Blog - nominated by newspaper extraordinaire Ron Petrie

Best Personal Blog - which would be cool to win, but the competition will crush me. You’re better off voting for fellow SaskBlogger Schmutzie.

I will not be defending my 3rd place finish for Best progressive Blog ‘06, because I wasn’t nominated this time, and didn’t do it myself :-) Off The Grid, which took first place for Best Sci/Tech blog last year also isn’t renominated, so a new winner will be found in that category as well. WinExtra, xSamplex, or EasternBlot are all worthy Sci/Tech blogs which I’ve found interesting in past visits.

Being the season of awards, both on and offline, the 2008 Bloggies are well underway too. [CORRECTION: 'The Canadian F-word blog Awards' is the creation of the two principals at 'A Creative Revolution' not "The feminist bloggers at Bread N' Roses have put together the F-Word Awards"], the lawyer bloggers have put together the CLawBies, and by the end of January we’ll all be awarded out.

I’ll be in Toronto on the weekend for CBC’s Test The Nation [facebook page]. Any suggestions on what to wear on air, or see in the city while I’m there?

By the way, why are Flight Crews beating Bloggers? Wouldn’t you rather I be flying your plane, serving you snacks, or making sure your tray table and seat are in their upright positions for example?

And in exciting news (to me anyway) I’ve become a blogger that makes notable money by blogging! Yes, that’s right, I’ve sold out to the man (and sold advertising other than Google Adsense which has made me about $4/month, tops). I can use the money to buy more years of my domain name, or maybe something less practical. Still can’t quit the day job(s) [not that I want to, anyway].

So without further delay, here is my blog’s sponsor… Atlantic Inkjet Cartridges.
Atlantic Inkjet Cartridges
They also offer refilled cartridges, and have a US online store as well as Canadian. After seeing this post about how much of a rip-off new cartridges can be for inkjet printers, they wanted me to advertise their refilled and name brand cartridges.

I have a couple of refilled cartridges for Ashley’s printer now, and can hardly wait to try them out. The shipping was fast, and the boxes contain instructions for how to install the cartridges if you’ve never used a refilled one before.

Of course this isn’t the first time I’ve been sponsored, but it’s been with goodies before. Like the old fashioned razor from Nashville Knife Shop.

Yes indeedy, blogging is cool.
