Real life got in the way of sports life today, so I missed the party at Mosaic Stadium Monday afternoon, in favour of a work. However, I did show up in time to see several Roughriders (O’Day, K. Jones, Fantuz {I think, I haven’t put a name to every face, and people look different in real life opposed to on TV with facemasks…}) leaving in their taxis and vehicles, and watched G.M. Eric Tillman sign things for fans even though he had a driver waiting for him. Someone I don’t know is getting a nifty signed helmet for Christmas thanks in part to Tillman taking that extra moment for fans.
CBC on MAX TV was claiming to be showing the celebration from 4:00 to 5:30 but they had Red Green on instead?? I hope they replay it many times so I can watch it later, or someone can YouTube it.
I want to attend the parade tomorrow, but the wind chill sounds scary, and I’m already going to be outside most of the morning in the dangerous temperatures we’re getting.
My Dad picked a great year to buy a Flex Pack of tickets with me :-) Next year I think I’ll be going to fewer games though. Not because I don’t love seeing the games, but because several hundred dollars is a lot to invest into professional sports in a year, when there are so many other more worthwhile activities that need support in the city.
Plus, what are the odds of winning two Cups in a row? Just KIDDING! Dynasty time, WOOO RIDERS!

OMG. A sports fan with perspective?!? I’ve often wondered how anyone with a social conscience can justify the amount of money p!$$3d away on professional sports.

and I can justify it away Sean. How many people piss away tons of money on alcohol and cigarettes.
To each their own I say….if we want to piss away $1000.00 buying our season tickets each year…because we enjoy going to games as a family. My mom and 4 aunts and 2 uncles all have seats right near us and with the busy world we all live in, if we can connect 10 times a year throughout our beautiful and magnificent summers…it is money well spent.
The Riders are the only pro-sports team Sask has. They are also one of the few things that can bring this whole province together and that too is a good thing!

I agree for the most part Nicole. It’s a family activity, and if you’re not getting drunk in front of your kids and other’s kids (like unfortunately a lot of adults do at the games), then it’s time well spent together. My main concern is that people can have family time in Regina for a lot less than $1000 a year, and collectively that level of resources would be better put to reducing hunger and underemployment in our community.
I still have some respect for CFL players over other pro sports, because it’s clear not all of them are in it to get rich in a huge way.

Geez, let’s just cancel the season or something and give it all to the United Way. What the hell is wrong with me wanting to spend _my money_ however the bloody hell I want? Do I chip in to the UW? I have and do. Do I support the Red Cross in their numerous drives? I have and do.
Social conscious? You’re kidding, right? Home of Tele-Miracle? You have the gall to accuse Saskatchewan of not having a social concious?
I have the right to be jubilant, devastated, entertained and amused by my team as well as pitying, supporting, and helping the less fortunate, it isn’t a binary set and Sean you have no right to try and make it one.
Who the hell gave those ten families stricken by cancer the opportunity to experience the win? It sure as hell wasn’t the non-sports fans, I guarantee that.
Cheapest pro-sport seats in the continent, cheapest wages for the players and even with that some people have to try and make me feel bad about supporting it.
Gods that just pisses me off.

undeniably some people take pro-sports contributions to the extreme. I think sports provide a valuable social service to society, but just as there is in capitalism, there are limits that when crossed, makes greed the primary service. If someone spent $10,000 on attending pro sports every year for themselves, and gave $10,000 on charity every year, I’d still think they are spending too much on pro-sports in a year.

I agree whole-heartedly with you Lance.
Supporting our Riders is essential to keep the team going. Without fan support and attendance at games, we would fold.
Yes, there are fans that get out of control and sometimes spoil it for others with their drinking and swearing. I have no qualms about getting security, but have never had to act upon that, as longtime season ticket holders sit pretty much all around us and for the most part are all decent and friendly people.
As the parents of a 13 yr old girl, it is not very impressive to have to explain to her that the streakers are idiots and have no respect for the Riders or the CFL if they are going to disrupt games, as she sits their embarassed.
We will not let the few fools spoil the fun we have at home games, whether we win or lose.
Yes, there are many different avenues to support and it all comes down to choice. If you choose to support the globe theatre for example, then that’s great and I would never take it upon myself to think it’;s a waste of money or time.
As for the Rider games, true fans are there thru thick and thin, good times and bad, winning streaks and loosing streaks.
