What an excellent second half that was.
Riders defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 23-19.
I’m watching the Cup being walked around the SkyDome now, as the Riders enjoy their first Grey Cup victory since 1989. I was a little kid last time, and this time I’m going to Albert St., and the party at Taylor Field tomorrow!
3 interceptions from Johnson is a Grey Cup record. The party here voted him the Warrior of the Game on CBC’s site by the third quarter. Dinwiddie’s favourite receiver was on the wrong team!
I noticed what looks like a Snowbirds sticker on the bottom of the base of the Grey Cup, does anyone know what that’s about? I saw a Snowbird standing with the Mounties guarding the cup. Perhaps it’s like the lucky Loonie under the ice at the 2002 Olympics? Moose Jaw conspired to ensure the Cup got into the hands of Schultz?
Speaking of conspiracies, how’d they get those “2007 Rider Grey Cup Champion” hats so quickly? How’d they know the Riders would win???
;-)
Lenny Kravitz was pretty good as a half time show.

The sticker was actually put on last year when a sqn helped transport the Grey Cup to the 94th Grey Cup. They snuck it on and it never came off!!!

Ahh I was just downtown and it is crazy, it took nearly two hours to get there from Uplands. People are running up and down the streets, and I also saw one guy in only his underwear!
Hahaha absolute pandemonium! I love it!!

They make up hats for both teams so that they are ready for whichever team wins.
Albert St. is empty now - you need to head up Dewdney Ave
See y’all at the homecoming at Mosaic Stadium on Monday!!
Go Riders Go!

They say that “defence win games”, that was certainly TRUE today for the Riders! James Johnson is the new Hero in Riderville tonight, and will be remembered for winnig this game for the Green & White…3 picks and running one back for a TD, without his efforts Sask just didn’t have the offensive output to win this game. :(
But…WE DID!!!! :-) :-)
If it weren’t for our defensive line stopping Sir Charles dead in his tracks and our special teams playing superbly, I don’t think anyone in Sask would’ve thought we would win that game, me included.
I don’t understand why we decided to take our roll out passer and turn him into a pocket passer tonight, but it didn’t work. We went away from what got us here on offence and it showed horribly! Does anyone realize that we did not complete a SINGLE 8-12 yard crossing route over the middle the entire game..?? That’s our Bread & Butter and we went away from it, prefering instead to try those 40 yarders that we rarely completed all year….WHY???
Oh well, we’re still partying here in Regina! I stopped into #1 Firehall to see the brothers (I’m a Firefighter) and they were all outside in their petch clothes, whooping it up with the crowd and having a blast. Good for the Bro’s, we miss allot of parties (and holidays) because we have to work, but the crowd was making sure to go over and high-5 the guys, so they enjoyed it as well.
John Chick and James Johnson for Premier and Mayor!!

Alexis, I believe it.

Jenkew, it’s number one now :-D
I’m actually getting more hits from people looking for the talk about the Riders, than the thousands of people who are mistakenly looking about a sick porn I wrote about the other week to dissuade people from looking at it. The Riders have beaten porn on the Internet! That’s HUGE! ;-)
–
Leftdog, that’s how it looked when I got there too!
–
that’sright, you’re so right! :-)
–
Mickey, see you at the stadium. I knew about the loser hats by the way ;-)
–
Chappy, you’re so right too. Defence won this game, and Kerry owes Chick and Johnson big-time for this win.

It may not have been pretty, but, as Brian Hall (the voice of the Eskimos from 630 CHED) said last night (I’m paraphrasing): It doesn’t matter when the right team wins.

Okay, all I was able to find was information of another sticker put on the bottom of the grey cup last year by 430 Squadron (Helicopters) There is a picture of it here
http://www.airforce.forces.gc.ca/site/newsroom/news_e.asp?id=2118
Players from the BC Lions hold up the Grey Cup. A small sticker with the numbers 4-3-0 and an eagle’s head can be seen on the bottom of the cup. Photo: Cpl Bill Gomm
Hence, the Snowbirds snuck it on this year…some how some where????

Thanks Tim.
“Rick Hillier:
We transported the Grey Cup from Winnipeg International to the Stadium in one of our Griffin helicopters, 430 squadron out of Valcartier. I don’t know if you have ever seen the Stanley Cup or the Grey Cup or things of that nature when they are transported. The Grey Cup is transported in a locked steel grey container and box. It is transported by two big hefty guys who treat it with their white gloves and they don’t let anybody near it, they don’t let anybody touch it unless they give you permission specifically. They never let it out of their sight. Our guys fley that box with the cup in it from Winnipeg International to the stadium. Those two big guys with it, got out there. At the end of the game when the British Columbian Lions put the cup up as you can see in the bottom right, when they hoisted the cup, there was the sticker from 430 squadron. How it got there, nobody knows. That cup was never out of sight of those two big hefty guys.
But I come to the war story part. Do you know what was special about that? It is those two big hefty guys, when they opened the box to take the cup out for the presentation at the end of the game, they saw the sticker and they left it there, as their little tribute to the men and women in uniform and what they do. Our recruit the nation strategy has paid dividends in a way that we never thought it would, bringing those recruits despite that being just one of the pillars of that recruit the nation strategy, bringing some of the investment that we need, bringing some of the political decisions that we need, but I think bringing in an awareness from Canadians of what, as I said at the start, what national treasures they actually have in uniform. ”
I have a soft spot for the Snowbirds. They come from Moose Jaw just 2 hours from where I grew up, and sometimes flew over my home in training. I say leave the sticker :-D and add to the Cup’s folklore.

You’ve either got a girlfriend or you’re OCD. That apartment is waaaaay too clean for a single guy.
Saskboy | 27-Nov-07 at 8:59 am | Permalink
It’s not my apartment, it’s where the party was :-)
Did you think the leader of The Teleban would have a plasma TV??? ;-)
G. | 27-Nov-07 at 6:59 pm | Permalink
I know it from the source - the Snowbirds sticker was added just before the Ridders received the cup.
Melissa | 28-Nov-07 at 8:35 pm | Permalink
I was always pretty sure that they made hats for both teams but I have always wondered how one of the losing teams hats didn’t end up on some ebay site. What do they do with the other hats? Must be pretty good security, because I think it would just be fun to have a fake one that has the official tags on it.
Saskboy | 28-Nov-07 at 11:54 pm | Permalink
I’ve thought the same thing too Melissa. I want my alternate reality Hamilton Champions of 1989 hats :-D
