I won't lie and say it doesn't help to be bright when avoiding such viruses, but sometimes its the same as getting a nail in a tire. It just happens, and you can only reduce the risk by not driving in certain places. Going looking for free-paid software, and opening spam is like driving over a nail-strip though. Harsh.
