TALKING TO AMERICANS: KARWACKI DEFENDS UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE TO 1.8 MILLION AMERICAN READERSSASKATOON – Today Saskatchewan Liberal Party Leader David Karwacki released to the province’s media his recent editorial published in 11 American newspapers touting the strengths of universal health care.
“With health costs sky-rocketing throughout North America, I wanted to make the point that privatization is not the solution,” said Karwacki. “As the debate heats up in the days before the election, we have to stress that our system’s short-comings should not put into question the principal of universal access to health services. A lack of imagination isn’t an excuse for allowing privatization to creep into our system.”
Karwacki’s letter was published throughout the United States, reaching an estimated 1.8 million readers. Newspapers to have printed the piece include the San Diego Sunday Union-Tribune, The Kansas City Sunday Star. The Fort Worth Star Telegram, The Charlotte Observer, and The Salt Lake Sunday Tribune.
“As a parent and community leader, I am thankful we all have access to world class health care,” stated Karwacki. “As someone who owns a business with offices in both the US and in Canada, I see the competitive advantage of our system everyday.”

Great! David is running an election in the United States. Almost as bad as when he was door knocking outside of the Weyburn- Big Muddy constituency.

It’s not so crazy Cecil. Canadians tend to look for affirmation from outside of their borders. For instance, Brad Wall is popular in part because it’s expected he’ll make this province more like what Albertans like in a government.

So why would an average voter looking for better healthcare care that David wrote a peice to American newspapers on healthcare instead of spending time selling his healthcare plan in Sask.

Perhaps because it shows he’s proud of the way our system works, and having operated a business on both sides of the border he can attest to the fact that our system is better (even if it has flaws).
Personally I hope he’s open to the idea of a British style healthcare system, or something that offers faster service than what we get now, which anyone can see tends to be unacceptably slow in too many areas.

We already have semi private health care. By that I mean privately owned medicenters and testing clinics that are funded by healthcare. I see nothing wrong with privately held lab and testing facilities. This would take a lot of the demand off of the major hospitals to deal with major health issues, and medicenters and private testing labs and facilities to do the minor stuff.

I agree we’re already semi-privatized. It’s not right that dental and eye exams and treatments aren’t considered essential medical care.
