The Roughriders are Number One!
I just got back from the unique game that put my favourite sports team into the top spot in the CFL. The power went out after the game was delayed due to a ferocious wind/rain combination. Many homes were without power, and all of the stadium lights went out for many minutes. They announced on the radio that someone had been hurt trying to leave. Maybe a dozen people were arrested when they ran out onto the pitch black field. At least one looked like a streaker, and he did backflips in the endzone. A video of the lights going out is coming up…
The late Eddie Rabbitt said it best, “I Love a Rainy Night!”
UPDATE: Here is the video on Facebook, of the lights shutting off after a lightning strike in Regina.

TSN coverage.
CJME coverage, and their sports coverage. No word yet on how badly the one fan was injured when leaving in the blackout.
–
Most people, including Schultz at TSN, picked the Riders to win this game.
–
An anonymous commenter at Rod’s blog said the police lied to spectators in order to disperse the crowd standing in the bleachers in the dark.

CFL.ca has more details. My brother reported that the website last night was wrong and made Edmonton the winning team. The site was down for a while to fix the mistake.
Nic was also at the game. I haven’t been this proud to be a Riders fan, this early in a season since possibly our Taylor Field victory over Tracy Ham’s 16-2 Eskimo team in 1989 (which I also attended).

Saskboy! Leftdog!
Shit doesn’t get any better for us in the Rider Nation. You thought that last night’s win was good, well tonight Jason Armstead has been traded for first round Canadian draft pick Chris Getzlaf and COREY HOLMES from Hamilton!!!
What more could we ask for?!

Yep Saskboy, I was there!!! It was the best Rider game I have ever attended!!!
I had so much fun. And yes, Eddie’s I love a Rainy Night was fitting, but when the announcer said ” should we stay or should we go” my daughter and I broke out singing it in honour of the Clash and we had several rows around us chanting it too!
It was the kind of night that you just had to be there to really get it and if you are a die-hard fan, the kind of night that we have been dreaming of for a long time!!!
As for Corey H coming home, it just doesn’t get any better. i wonder if he will get back #19. Christmas , 2004 we got the kids each jerseys and my daughter ( my mini-me) of course says Corey is her favourite player too. Then he gets the big trade in March 2005. He is such a classy guy, that when Hamilton played here last summer, August 19th 06, my son who has field access approached him and asked him to autograph the jersey for his sister. When Corey saw the # 19 Holmes Rider jersey, he told my son that it was a sight for sore eyes.
We can’t wait for Sept 2nd I think he’ll get a standing ovation!!!

I was at the rider game it was awesome, until a security guard told us the game was called and to leave NOW. There was chaos everywhere. The group of 12 I was with met up outside the stadium exit and we decided there was no way with this chaos that we could catch a cab so we decided to walk a little further and call a cab from ahead. Then I got hit by a car when we were crossing the street with a walk light. She fractured my tibia I had to go in an ambulance to the hospital and my husband and a police man rode with me. The doctor is telling me what my x-rays said and another guy walks by the doctor interrupts himself to tell the guy walking by that the game was back on and the riders were winning. Then the doctor turned back to me and said “sorry let me get you some morphine.” I am mad because we could have just waited under the bleachers where we were when we were told to leave. Then to find out while I am in the hospital that the game is back on.

Wow, rotten luck Sarah. I guess you could see it as you acted as a lightening rod for all the bad luck in Regina, and directed enough away from the Riders that they were able to win. Thank you for helping our team out ;-)
