Here’s a press release I’m passing along because it’s important to Canada’s future. Our country’s sovereignty is being threatened by people who would rather that the President in Washington control our economy.

On Monday August 20th, the Green Party of Canada will be presenting a counter-summit in response to the Security and Prosperity Partnership summit, being held in Montebello Quebec, and being attended by Stephen Harper (Prime Minister of Canada), George Bush (President of the U.S.) and Felipe Calderon (President of Mexico).
WHAT: Security and Prosperity Partnership Counter Summit
WHEN: Monday August 20th, 9 am - 3 pm
WHERE: Guigues Hall, Room 203 Saint Paul University, 223 Main Street, Ottawa, ON
WHO: Elizabeth May (Leader, Green Party of Canada), Dr. Janet Eaton (International Trade Critic, Green Party of Canada), Ralph Pentland (Former Director, Water Planning and Management, Environment Canada), and Members of the Green Party of the United StatesThe counter summit is an opportunity to bring Green Party members together, to build synergy, to attract new members, and to go back to our ridings with a sound knowledge of a key overarching issue which affects many of our policies. This could be a seminal moment in our party’s history!

It’s a good step, but it won’t work. What will be effective is not a separate Green Party convention, but getting business leaders and civil society leaders into the SPP conference so that necessary consultation can take place.
