“The Simpsons - The Movie” [9/10]
The only thing that bugged me at The Simpsons’ movie were the people who got up and started to leave as the credits started. How much of a Simpsons fan can you be to not realize that there are going to be jokes in a major Simpsons showing, embedded into the credits? Do people everywhere leave early in movies, or is it just a Saskatchewan thing?
As for the scenes where they made fun of American consumer pollution, and nudity prudishness, they were excellent. I don’t know if other movies have had cartoon child penises in them before, but Fox sure walked the line there. I’m surprised it wasn’t rated NC-17. From the quick flash of Bart’s nudity, it would appear that he isn’t circumcised. I don’t know if this has any significance, but I would guess not.

i was thinking he appeared to be uncircumcised as well, although it was so simplistically drawn you cant really say.

Bart wasn’t circumcised until he was school age. In one episode, Marge tells Lisa that “we’re going to the doctor to get Bart c-i-r-c-u-m-s-i-z-e-d”. Bart looks at her quizically and she says “I’ll tell you what it means when its over”.
Soooo…. if Bart appears as a young child uncircumsized, good; if he’s older, its a blooper worthy of note!
And yes I’m a complete geek.

I thought there must have been an episode to address it. Thanks for pointing the one out Amanda. The movie makers erred. But then again, since when has the movie reflected the TV series its based upon, accurately?

Just because they said he was going to get the snip doesn’t mean he went thru with it.
I personally thought he was circumcised in the episode when he is trying to reunite Krusty & his father…

Marge said Bart was going to be “C.I.R.C….” in the same breath as saying Santa’s Little Helper was going to the “V.E.T.” presumably to be neutered. (The joke was that Bard and SLH both said “Huh?”) SLH escaped by being a hit at Grandpa’s retirement village, so maybe Bart did too. Then again, he only has three fingers, so what else do they leave out?
Tommy, what happens in that episode?

Recall that Matt Groenig is from Portland OR, and the Simpsons is probably made in LA. Along the Pacific coast of the USA, routine infant circ has fallen out of fashion. The Simpsons movie may simply following chic popular culture in its target audience. I also read that the TV series is now dubbed in 45 languages, so that the Simpsons is no longer mainly a Yank thing. Hence by leaving Bart intact, the film makers may simply have been deferring to the world market, which is overwhelmingly uncut.
