The hard won garden is in

I’ve planted most of my garden now. Tomatoes, lettuce, garlic, and petunias are the crop to this point, with possible sunflowers, peppers, beans, and radishes to come.

Boardwalk decided to let me keep my flower garden after I complained about their plans to raze the beds everywhere in the townhouse park. Now if they survive the gophers, rabbits, birds (mallards visited today), then I will be quite impressed.

Shrek without ending

I saw “Shrek the Third” [8/10] this afternoon, and while it was entertaining, it wasn’t quite as funny as the second one. There were some zingers though, such as the reclaiming of the “Viagra song”, and the Gingerbread Man pooping out a gumdrop when he got scared. The only letdown of the show was that there were no bloopers after the credits.

Gummy bears revolt!

Flickr blog has an interesting photo journal of a gummy bear revolt.

I don’t think I can eat any to help put down the uprising. Not after eating a lot of pizza for lunch:

Photos of the week gone by (with animals)

Once in a while it’s easier to post pretty pictures and cat photos instead of political commentary about the sad Air India inquiry, the death of Falwell, the World Bank Wolfie, or lame Black trial news. This is that post.

Preserving your family history with Nader

Ralph Nader is a pretty interesting guy. The world would certainly be a very different place today if he had become a US President.

His latest book has an interesting idea to it. Here’s an interview with him on The Hour.

Get to work without a car week

My friend has come up with an excellent event idea, and I hope you can participate. The week starting July 8, 2007 will be a week where we’ll make a serious effort to get people commuting to work in a way other than a single occupant motor vehicle.

Ride Transit/Bike/Walk to work week

“Get out of your cars and enjoy the world!”

From July 8-15, 2007, all around the globe, people are going to try their hardest to get out of their cars for their daily commute, and walk, ride transit, or bike to work for a whole week. A chance for all of them to save gas, produce less traffic and pollution, and enjoy life a little more.

The benefits are many if we can manage to convince a lot of people to participate, so head over to Facebook and get more details, or view the blog post about it here.

It’s about a 30 minute walk to work for me, so I may end up biking it instead. Right now I’m car pooling or taking the city bus.

Facebook also has silly events and groups on it. One such group is “Footbook“.

Rental company says no to flower gardens

The Boardwalk rental community where I live has some pretty nice flower gardens. Some people have obviously invested hours and even hundreds of dollars into theirs. I was going to make use of mine this Summer, but a few days ago the landlord sent out a notice that they were “eliminating all flowerbeds”, and putting grass over the new soil they are putting down to reduce basement flooding.

I’m writing them a letter in protest right now, and am hoping to convince them to let people replace their flowers on the new soil, rather than being forced into pots, or into not being able to garden at all. What sort of points would you make in the letter? I’ll be posting the letter later, and if it comes to it, a petition.

Chicken Chicken Chicken

I want to know when the eggs come in. I think this is possibly a poorly researched thesis:

Hat tip to Rosie, who must know all too well what it’s like to get a “real” chicken presentation.
