I’ve planted most of my garden now. Tomatoes, lettuce, garlic, and petunias are the crop to this point, with possible sunflowers, peppers, beans, and radishes to come.
Boardwalk decided to let me keep my flower garden after I complained about their plans to raze the beds everywhere in the townhouse park. Now if they survive the gophers, rabbits, birds (mallards visited today), then I will be quite impressed.

For what it’s worth, I’ve had good luck by planting marigolds around vegetables. Their scent is pretty effective at keeping critters away.

squirrels are the source of much garden carnage in my neck of the woods. i’m attempting peas and beans this year knowing full well that the minute they produce their sweet fruit, every squirrel on the block will invade my garden leaving only empty pods and shattered dreams in their wake….
oh, knb’s marigold trick can be effective. however, we have mutant ninja squirrels in high park. they cannot be stopped….
good luck with your garden!

KNB is right!! Marigolds also help keep dreaded hoppers away too!!
Since you last posted a pic of the “rain storm” last week, I just posted the pics I took of the rainbow from that very “storm”, taken right from my back door.
Come check them out!

i had a problem with slugs. They ravaged my garden. Now, I have a balcony garden and I’m hoping all goes well.

I’ll have to hope my scare-cat watching from the window will chase away the critters.

isn’t it too early to plant flowers? This next week was supposed to be really cold…. well for May that is.

Darn, you could be right. Go global warming! ;-) Yes I’m seriously kidding.
I had to get something in last weekend anyway.

It did freeze, but things survived completely, and my drowned flowers came back to life recently. I also have peas and radishes coming up now.

I find the only way to keep out critters is with physical barriers (ie. chicken wire planted with the peas). That said, once I saw a bunny in my veggie patch. Instead of running like a shouting maniac which I have been known to do, I watched it… as it nibbled on some lamb’s ear. Good little weed eating bunny.
