My friend has come up with an excellent event idea, and I hope you can participate. The week starting July 8, 2007 will be a week where we’ll make a serious effort to get people commuting to work in a way other than a single occupant motor vehicle.
Ride Transit/Bike/Walk to work week
“Get out of your cars and enjoy the world!”
From July 8-15, 2007, all around the globe, people are going to try their hardest to get out of their cars for their daily commute, and walk, ride transit, or bike to work for a whole week. A chance for all of them to save gas, produce less traffic and pollution, and enjoy life a little more.
The benefits are many if we can manage to convince a lot of people to participate, so head over to Facebook and get more details, or view the blog post about it here.
It’s about a 30 minute walk to work for me, so I may end up biking it instead. Right now I’m car pooling or taking the city bus.

Facebook also has silly events and groups on it. One such group is “Footbook“.

What’s sad is Lizzy May has marked herself as not attending. I guess not driving to work is just too hard for the head of the green party of Canada.

I ride my bike to work everyday now that’s its summer. I get exercise and don’t have to pay for parking or gas. Win-win-win-win.

I”ve been doing this for 11 months and the cash flow benefits are hugely tremendously gratifying.

I don’t have a car, and I’ve been biking to work since God-knows-when. So I guess I won’t be having any problems with this.

Don’t worry everyone, I will drive my car back and forth to work, with only myself in it, with the sun roof and windows open and the AC blasting to balance everything out.
*insert evil laugh here*

It’s gonna be an easy day for me.
I don’t own a car and daily parking fees downtown equal between 75 and 100 miles worth of gas for my motorbike, so it stays in the parking garage at the apartment.
In the winter and on bad weather days I ride the bus, and on nice sunny days I ride my (pedal) bike - at least when I’m not running late.

Fantastic idea. Count me in.

I too find it surprising that May declined the Facebook invite, but maybe there’s a technical reason and not an ideological difference.

I ride transit, and am gearing my used bike up, but its 10km into work, so i might have to “train” for the ride in, haha!
And as a disclaimer, I live on a HUGE hill.
