Entertaining Dead People of 2006 - none executed

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

Although you don’t have to do much to entertain dead people, I suppose you could prop them up beside the jukebox if they die (Joe Diffie is still alive I should note). This blog post is more about the entertainers of America who passed on in 2006.
MSN made a rather long list of 41. I thought they left out John Spencer from the West Wing, but it turns out he died at the end of 2005.

I can’t think of any Canadian entertainers we lost in the past year, only P. Burton came to mind and he died in 2004.

And the fate of the show Lost may not be sealed (SPOILERS if you haven’t watched all of season 2), but I’ve only seen about two episodes live, instead choosing to watch them from recordings, in order, instead, so I more rarely have to put up with the ridiculous breaks in between new episodes.

Sadly 3000 American troops have been lost since the Iraq War was started by Bush’s government in 2003. The death toll from September 11th was about 3000 people, but now more than that will have died as a result of Bush’s war of terror on a country that wasn’t involved in the infamous day that provided the blank cheque to the worst President in modern history.

Sweeteners to give disease - ask your doctor

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

The sugar substitute Sweet’N Low says on the back in the ingredients that it contains Sodium Cyclamate 34%. On the next line it notes “Cyclamate to be used only on the advice of a physician. So that means this “sugar” should only be used on the advice of a doctor. It’s prescription sweetener if you will.

The result if you eat this without asking your doctor? Sweet’N Low Disease. It’s real, and very, very serious. Ask your doctor.

So when you’re out having tea or coffee at a New Year’s Eve party, make sure not to add any Kraft Sweet’N Low without talking to your doctor first. Only two calories, with a prescription.

Tagged, oh no! 5 things you didn’t know about me

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

Brem has tagged me, and while I’d normally bludgeon someone who bestows a meme on me, I’m going to stay with the holiday spirit and cooperate instead.
So as I understand, I have to reveal 5 facts about me you might not be aware of.

  1. I preferred sweat pants as a child, but did wear jeans sometimes.
  2. I have a bump on one of my fingers from a run in with a car door.
  3. I would like to fly in space.
  4. I wear approximately size 10 shoes.
  5. I had long-ish hair in grade 5.

I’ll tag Miss Cellania, because I think she just might fill this one out, if she hasn’t already. Tagging more people would just be cruel.

Gerald Ford Dana Carvey SNL Tom Brokaw - Google Video

For those of you who don’t have highspeed internet, the video has Dana Carvey “Brokaw” reading possible final demises of former President Ford, so that he can take a vacation without needing to return when the old man dies unexpectedly.

Unrelated to Ford, but there’s a new blog here of someone who has/had a “stuff” blog too.

Movies and a joke unfinished

Saturday, December 30th, 2006

On my holiday I watched most of “Bandits” [7/10] with Bruce Willis, “The Meaning of Life” [4/10] with Monty Python’s gang, and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” [2/10] which is a cult classic because you need to be in a cult that forces you to watch it in its entirety.

I also caught some of the Trek-mas marathon, with “The Voyage Home - Star Trek IV” [9/10].

Here’s a joke I’m working on, and it’s not finished. If you can fine tune it, that would be great.

So it starts off like this…
Saddam Hussein, Gerald Ford, and the Godfather of Soul James Brown are at the Pearly Gates of heaven.

And that’s as far as I’ve got.

Back from the ‘Peg ; President is dead

Friday, December 29th, 2006

I got back from Winnipeg today. I took photos in plenty of places, including the Mint, where I learned that since 2001 they’ve been Plating the coins so that even pennies cost just a fraction of a cent to produce. On the way back along the Yellowhead highway I took photos in Gladstone, Binscarth, and Russel to name a few. Bredenbury’s light display was still running so I saw that award winning display for the first time, and they have an FM station with Christmas music even.

I was surprised to hear Saddam was hanged already in the past day, and underneath I saw typical liberal CBC with the “fair and balanced” take on the story:

Family mourns former president at private service

Oh, then I noticed that it was actually President Ford who had died and was being mourned. Ha, fooled you too?
Certainly not God’s best choice of President to have keel over this year.

Here’s the Mint in Winnipeg:

Get rid of the 5¢ coin?

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

Should Canada get rid of the nickel? 50 cent coins were taken out of regular circulation years ago, so why not save money on one of the most useless and large coins out there. Some people like to pick on the penny, and it’s fair game too. Maybe it should be a two cent coin instead so it’s worth more than the metal that goes into it.

Slashdot reports that the US is making coin melting illegal.
