Blog Navel Gazing: CBA voting done round 1

Round one of the Canadian Blog Awards has ended, and the results shocked and delighted me. Two of the three categories I was nominated for, has me as a contender for the final round of voting! Abandoned Stuff finished 5th in the Best Progressive Blog category, and Off The Grid [which I contribute to] finished at the top of the Sci/Tech category! Fantastic, even if it’s only round 1 - I’m on such an ego trip tonight it’s unreal. I’m flattered so many people voted for me, and for Off The Grid. And to top off my exciting evening, was a phone interview with the Regina Leader Post, as they are working on a story about blogging.

Thank you to everyone who voted for me so far, and I hope for your continued support into the final round starting this Saturday. 4 is a lucky number, and I finished with 4% of the votes previously, so I have a good feeling that I may win… 4th if my voters keep up the good work. It’s a very Canadian number, 4th. You may remember it from the Olympic Games, or as how many corners Saskatchewan’s border has.

Round 2 Voting Opens: Saturday November 25
Round 2 Voting Closes: Friday December 1, 2006
Round 2 Results: Sunday December 3, 2006 8pm CST

Calgary Grit (149) 10%
Matthew Good (109) 7%
Peace, Order and Good Government, Eh (88) 6%
The Next Agenda (82) 5%
Abandoned Stuff by Saskboy (67) 4%

Abandoned Stuff finished in 12th place for the Best Blog category, which surprised me too. Samantha Burns beat out a couple of my other favourites in the humour category, but Scout at Harper-Valley is doing even better, and is in the hunt to unthrone the laughs-juggernaut Rick Mercer.

Here were my prior endorsements that I’m sticking with:
* Slap Upside The Head
* Olaf Prairie Wranglers - Best Conservative
* Somena Media
* The Galloping Beaver
I can be persuaded to endorse other blogs too ;-), although those 4 didn’t offer any additional persuasion besides creating entertaining sites.

The Next Agenda, Apply-liberally, and Liberal Catnip were all very close to my numbers in the Progressive category. I’d recommend them all as regular reads, since they are usually a lot busier bloggers than I am. I’ve had POGGE on my blogroll right from the time I first learned what a blogroll was. I’ve not paid as close attention to either Calgary Grit or Matthew Good’s blogs, but what I’ve seen I have liked. I wish them the best in the following round, and hope in a week from Sunday we can all still say nice things about each other :-D

And unfortunately my other picks didn’t make the cut with the exception of Stageleft, Harper-valley, and SDA who all moved on.
Abernethy Online, Breakfast Meat
Stephen Glauser
Stageleft
SDA
Canadian Cynic
Ottawonk
Harper-valley

I’ve yet to judge who claimed to have voted the most for me, and when I do, whoever did, wins the link and photo I promised as a prize. Expect the pronouncement tonight or tomorrow.
