The Rats in Calgary ban Gainer the Gopher

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

As I noticed yesterday after catching a “Censored” blog comment from Rod Pedersen, the voice of the Roughriders, Gainer has been barred from the Calgary Stampeders’ home field for the playoff game this Sunday against the Riders. Alberta may be the rat free province, but I didn’t know they banned gophers too. And so, on Halloween 2006, Saskatchewan is buzzing with the news that their most famous costumed celebrity, has been barred from Calgary. First they’ll ban our larger than life-sized gophers from Saskatchewan, then they’ll start forbidding people from Saskatchewan to work in Calgary!

Hat Tip to my fellow Green (in the Rider sense) man, Buckdog.

I heard that Jenna Holbrooke formerly of CJME, has gone to The Fan station instead, and said that Burris had nothing to do with banning Gainer. The radio is calling this situation “GainerGate”. Hillarious!

UPDATED: Vote please - 25 Peeps perfect for posturing a pose

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

I positively approve of posing for 25 Peeps, a pleasant and provocative publication on the planet, who posts pictures of people with blogs to promote them. You send them your photo, and they preview it for inclusion on their page.

My photo is now listed, and if you click it, I will remain on the front page. At least one of the photos of “cleavage” is actually a guy’s bum (just to warn you). After clicking my photo, you can return to 25peeps, and click Miss Cellania too [The blond with glasses].
Ain’t blog popularity contests fun? :-D

And in the vain of navel gazing (pun intended), my Technorati rank is way up this day. 3,835th most linked-to blog (1,160 links from 425 blogs). Previously I was hovering at 4800. In the Ecosystem I’m a Large Mammal today at 1069, although usually I’m closer to 1200, as a Marauding Marsupial.

UPDATE: OK, it’s been a few days, and I’ve managed to stay on the top 25 list in that time thanks to the generous repeat clickers, and Miss Cellania posting my photo to click too. For a while I was beating the bum that looks like cleavage, and now I’m losing to the guy in a jester’s hat. So please, AbandonedStuff.com readers click my face.

Happy Halloween

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

It was a long tradition that I get sick on Halloween, but last year I managed to stay healthy, and instead was sick during Christmas.

Here’s an excellent Halloween display at an Old Dutch Chips home in Yorkton. The grave stones have jokes on them, and Frankenstein has a Pepsi in his hand. There’s a stuffed guy mooning, with pumpkin cheeks, and a stuffed gal flashing, with a pumpkin bra.

Greek blogger arrested for running a blog aggregator

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Slashdot.org writes about a Greek blogger who got sued and arrested, based on what someone else wrote. Blog aggregators reprint the “feed” from other blogs who are members of the list. Blogging Tories, ProgressiveBloggers.ca and the Saskblogs Aggregator are some popular aggregators in Canada. If ever one of their operators were sued or arrested, the blogosphere would take a serious hit. When bloggers are punished, freedom of speech suffers.

In sports censorship news, for some reason CKRM’s Rod Pedersen pulled a blog post he wrote concerning Gainer’s invitation to Calgary being revoked. I saw it before it displayed only the word -CENSORED-. If I get an update as to why it was pulled, I’ll post the clip I saw.

Road impassable when wet

Monday, October 30th, 2006

I love the road caution signs in Saskatchewan.

The road is to the left of the sign, out of the picture. It’s not where the grass is growing. My favourite though, which I saw on highways when I was a child, was this one featuring an old car going downhill. Now the signs feature a cube van going downhill. Yes, we have hills in Saskatchewan *rolls my eyes*.

I got both of those signs on digital film Saturday, on my way back from Katepwa Beach.

American democracy: 300,000,000 ruled by 4 people

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Here’s an explanation of the proof behind how the Republicans stole American elections. What’s interesting to note though, is how close the races were to begin with. I’m not certain of all of the reasons behind that, but I’d guess it has something to do with the possibility the Democrats would be just about as bad in office. The American political system appears to be in need of change.

It’s completely unacceptable for example, that when Hillary Clinton’s first term ends in 2012, that the President’s office will have been held by two “competing” families for at least 24 years. You can’t fool me by saying that a country of over 300,000,000 people can only find 4 people from 2 wealthy families, to be their political head. There’s something seriously wrong with how democracy is being practiced, for that kind of coincidence to happen.

That’s the 400kg elephant in American politics. It’s the celebrity problem, and it’s stifling free speech, and the hope of dozens of qualified people to ever become President. How can it be fixed? Some of my ideas include open televised debates among all Presidential candidates. Spending caps on election campaigns, and small limits on how much an organization/corporation can donate to any campaign. It’s a big mistake to let money become free speech, since money lets even moderately wealthy individuals with valid views, to be drowned out. We should stop basing our votes on who has the most money, because money doesn’t always indicate success.

Women ignored by businessmen - Norm MacDonald is a funny jerk

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

Here’s a well written account, by Dave, of what it must be like to do formal business when you’re a woman.

And it looks like Norm MacDonald is part of the problem. Dave does a good job of demonstrating what it must have been like for Courtney in this video clip, as Norm steals the show, while Conan is interviewing her. Be sure to watch the two last minutes of the clip, where Norm’s jokes about the movie, made my eyes feel like they were going to pop out from laughing too hard.

Elizabeth May - Green Party Leader - interviewed in London

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

The Green Party is about “effective political change, not partisan political power,” said Elizabeth May the leader of the Green Party of Canada, to Wayne Chu from ProgressiveBloggers.ca who conducted the video interview.
It’s unlikely that a Blogging Tory will produce a similar video with the Conservative candidate, given Stephen Harper’s order for her to have a short leash. And no, that’s not a dog joke, it’s just an expression.
