Hi I just went back to an even older IH Fridge...I can tell you that it was born on 07-21-1950 and is still in fine working order, I can also say that my 2 year old ropper has bite the dust. I have beem watching it's energy use and guess what it uses less than the new one did. Plus it will last at least another 57 years I am sure. Never breaks down, still has not needed freon in 57 years. Gosh i wish the new ones were this nice.

Just wanted to add my two cents...
Smile it's all about life...

I'd love to see a picture Bruce. And I agree that as interesting a 1950's fridge is, by now it deserves to be retired and something with a working thermostat and defroster would probably be appreciated by your father.

I am putting this in for my father who still uses his first fridge that he purchased in 1955. This fridge was the first electrical device that was purchased after electricity was put into the farm.
This device is a International Harvester fridge, that stood in the corner of the living room till the wiring was put into the kitchen.
This fridge is still working, although the automatic shut off switch quit, so my father has it hooked up to a block heater timer so it comes on and switches off by the hour.
This fridge should be in a International Museum, and my father should have a respectable fridge in the farm house. (need photos?)

[...] I’ve written about this Saskpower contest before. I plan on making a documentary about my ugly fridge, and featuring it on YouTube before the week is through. Tell your environmentally aware friends about my horribly old and ugly fridge. If I win, I will hold a new-fridge naming contest on my blog. [...]

Ollie, older fridges may last longer, that will come to be seen. But one thing is sure, the new ones use about a third of the power in the same amount of time. That's quite significant.

Well I'm still going full swing and plan on doing that for quit some time that's why these antiques will out last the new model.s

In a normal universe I should be winning this contest, but there's a fridge from 1927 that makes my fridge look relatively new at only ~46-54 years old (You can imagine the energy efficiency I get.), and one from 1948 that's just out right ugly.
