Stephen Colbert of the comedy show Colbert Report [pronounced Re-pour], pants the Washington media in front of the President, and the public on CSPAN the other day. The blog Crooks & Liars who hosted the partial video of the event reported nearly half a million hits on the blog entry describing the video. Some media outlets of course ignored his backhanded compliments for the President and the media, while bloggers are abuzz over the event. Colbert had the undivided attention of the President for about thirty minutes, and he got to say nearly everything anyone with questions would want to put to “The Decider” Bush.
Some other celebrities who’d like a piece of Bush’s ear include The Dixie Chicks, and Neil Young. They’d take a bite out if it obviously.
Speaking of biting the hand that feeds you, the State Department lit into Canada the other day, as I wrote about that before. You’d think that sharing the world’s longest undefended border, and thus contributing in an incalculable way to American military superiority, they’d cut our “liberal” immigration policy some slack. Heck, we tend to do crazy liberal things like investigating why an innocent man was handed over to American authorities by the RCMP so that he could be tortured in Syria as a terrorist.

what about the canadian citizen that was crippled fighting troops in afghanistan and came back to canada for the healthcare “entitled” to him even though his family was working actively against the canadian government and people?
His dad was called “el canadi” and was an islamic militant….look him up….nice way to coddle those that would see yopu destroyed.

You’ve got to love it when a country with 11-12 million undocumented immigrants attacks Canada for having a too “liberal” immigration infrastructure (we have an estimated 200,000 undocumented people in Canada). I say, we’ll clean up our processes as soon as they clean up theirs.
They even mention specific “terrorists” who have apparently found “safe haven” in Canada. Well, they certainly are “safe”, yes. 4 of them are in prison, and one is basically under house arrest. I think one’s argument is undercut somewhat when one complains about the apparent plethora of terrorists in Canada, and then cites as evidence all of the terrorists in Canadian jails. But maybe that’s just me. And the suggestion that our government overreacted when it worked to free a Canadian citizen from a Syrian jail where he was being tortured is just laughable. If the U.S. wants to send it’s own citizens to be tortured overseas, that’s their call, but the shouldn’t expect us to just sit idly by when they do it to our citizens. (It’s good to know though that if we ever need to send an American citizen to Syria to be tortured, the Americans will be OK with that, and won’t “overreact” to “media pressure”… because I think Bill O’Reilly is up to something, and I think we may need the Syrian’s special brand of persuassion to find out what it is…)
I’m not saying we shouldn’t be concerned about border security, and controlling who enters and leaves our country, but the whole State Department report seems like a conversation between a pot and a kettle.
There probably are some terrorists in Canada who wish to attack the U.S. I’m a realist, so I don’t deny that. But there’s also a country which undoubtedly contains A LOT more terrorist cells intent on harming the United States. That country? The United States.
Not one of the 9/11 hijackers ever visited Canada. They all got into the U.S. by taking advantage of the U.S.’s “liberal” immigration laws and lax enforcement. Why would terrorists intent on attacking America do their planning in Canada when it’s so easy to get into the United States? The State Department should really take a second look at what their own house is made of before throwing stones our way.

I know who you’re talking about Kender, that Kahders in Ottawa. I agree that it’s completely unacceptable for a known criminal family with ties to Bin Laden to be granted passports and freedom.
And Kitchener, I agree that it’s beyond laughable that the day after the State Dept. lambastes Canadian “liberal immigration” policy, Kender here says [on another blog] “The U.S. lets in over a million LEGAL immigrants EVERY YEAR, the MOST liberal immigration policy ON THE PLANET!!!!” Thanks for clearing that up Kender :-)

That’s the problem saskboy, the U.S. has the most liberal immigration policy, and people want to make it even more so…..
